JLL Market Watch Week Feb 17, 2017

According to the Statistics Canada, Vietnam remained the Asian fifth biggest exporter to Canada in 2016, after China, Japan, Republic of Korea and Taiwan.

VN realty market attracts robust foreign investment

Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) statistics show that nearly USD300 million worth of FDI was poured into the property market in January, accounting for around 20 percent of the total FDI attraction, mostly thanks to the growing middle class, improved series of policies in the investment climate, and allowing foreigners to own real estate assets in Viet Nam​​.

Hanoi to collect VND10 trillion from auctioning land

The capital city plans to collect VND10 trillion (USD444.5 million) from more than 102 ha of land will be auctioned in total this year. The city will spend an estimated VND948 billion in clearing land and developing social technical infrastructure for projects with area from 5,000sq.m. In 2016, Ha Noi collected over VND4.2 trillion from auctioning more than 23.8ha of land.

Infrastructure boosts Dong Nai property market

The property market is booming in the southern province of Dong Nai of thanks to its excellent infrastructure with the construction of the HCMC – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Highway, which has cut the distance to the south-eastern provinces; Long Thanh International Airport will be developed, and last July the HCMC People’s Committee petitioned the Government to build the Cat Lai Bridge 2 between District 2 and Nhon Trach in Dong Nai, which will help reduce the distance by 10km.

Nipro starts work on new USD300 million facility in Vietnam

Nipro Pharma Corporation – Japan’s biggest prescription drug contract manufacturer is expanding its operations in Vietnam with a new project worth USD300 million in the Saigon Hi-Tech Park to meet the growing demand for medical equipment and build a more stable supply system. “If everything goes smoothly, the project is likely to be kicked off in 2017," said Le Bich Loan, deputy chairwoman of the park’s Management Board.

Vietnam among top five Asian exporters to Canada

According to the Statistics Canada, Vietnam remained the Asian fifth biggest exporter to Canada in 2016, after China, Japan, Republic of Korea and Taiwan. The country’s trade surplus with Canada grew to USD 3.3 billion in 2016, up 24.7 per cent compared to the previous year.

CapitaLand Vietnam, Toong sign deal to develop co-working space

Singaporean developer CapitaLand and Toong have signed a memorandum of understanding to change the working environment in Viet Nam. As the first fruit of this partnership, Toong plans to open a co-working space in HCMC, offering convenient access to more modern amenities, high-quality value-added services, and conductive working environment for start-ups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Danang International Airport to be completed soon

Construction of a new terminal at Da Nang International Airport is expected to completed in March 29. The USD154 million project will be put into trial operation from April to September before being officially inaugurated to serve the high-level APEC Week in November 2017. With the construction begun in November 2015, the 48,000 sqm terminal has a designed capacity of four million passengers per year by 2025 and provides parking space for over 400 automobiles.

Japan invests in Binh Dinh

In February alone, Binh Dinh has granted investment certificates for two FDI projects. The first project is a garment factory funded by a Canadian investor in An Nhon Town. In the second one, the People’s Committee of the central Binh Dinh Province licensed an investment certificate to Japan-based Marubeni Lumber Co Ltd to invest in a USD 5 million project, located in the province’s Nhon Hoi Economic Zone (EZ). This project covers an area of 10ha in Park A in Nhon Hoi EZ, would be completed in the second quarter of 2018, contributing to the growth of the province, and creating jobs for more than 200 labourers.

Binh Thuan aims to become national sea tourism-sports centre

The People’s Committee of Binh Thuan has issued a plan to boost tourism through 2020, aiming to make tourism a spearhead sector of the province and turning the locality into a national sea tourism-sports centre. As of January 2017, the province had 388 investment projects in tourism with a total investment of over VND 54.07 trillion. Of the total, 23 projects are foreign-invested. Last year, the Province welcomed 4.5 million visitors, including 530,800 foreign arrivals, up 11.2 percent year on year, and aims to serve 5 million visitors in 2017.

Khanh Hoa to build 27-hole golf course

Recently, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved investment of Lotus Cam Ranh Golf Course project in the south-central province of Khanh Hoa. The 27-hole golf course project will cover an area of 90 ha in Cam Ranh City’s,  and costs USD 26.9 million. The golf course is expected to be completed in 2019 or by April 2020 with three phases. The operation duration of the project is 50 years from the date of approval​​​.
