Vietnam Property Market Overview 1Q20

The latest overview of the real estate market and the outbreak's impact on businesses.

Covid-19 epidemic was keeping investors on the sidelines as to whether to invest or expand businesses in Vietnam. Total foreign investment reached nearly USD 8.6 billion in 1Q20, down 20.9% y-o-y. Of the total, USD 5.5 billion came from newly licensed projects, while those with capital contribution, share purchase and those with additional registered capital totalled USD 2 billion and 1.07 billion, respectively. 

Power production and distribution industry took the lead with total capital of over USD 4 billion, accounting for 47.5% of total registered investment capital; Manufacturing and processing industry ranked second with USD 2.72 billion; The retail sales and real estate businesses followed with USD 682 million and 264 million, respectively. 

Singapore currently leads the list of countries investing in Vietnam in 2020, with a total investment of USD 4.54 billion, followed by familiar partners such as Japan, China and South Korea.
