Ho Chi Minh City’s very first line of Metro

Metro Line No.1 project (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) is steadily progressing toward the operation

According to Decision No. 65/QĐ-TTg issued on February 8, The Prime Minister approved the new completion time of Metro Line No. 1 project (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) to be by the end of Q4 2023.

Metro Line No. 1 which is the first of eight planned metro line projects in Ho Chi Minh City has a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND and is funded by Japanese overseas development assistance and Vietnamese counterpart funds.

At the end of December 2022, Metro Line No. 1 officially rolled out for a test run of nearly 9km, starting from Suoi Tien station to Binh Thai station (Thu Duc city) with a speed of less than 40km/h.

On March 14 and 15, 2023, The Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) and Vietnam Tokyo Metro collaborated to hold an internal training session on the topic "Testing, Trial Run before Commercial Operation, Preparation for operation of urban railways and acceptance of underground construction works ".

On February 17, 2023, The MAUR held a trial run of the Metro Line No.1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) for the family and relatives of the Officials, the Board’s employees and HURC1 Company. More than 700 people took part in this trial run.

On March 18, 2023, The MAUR, and NJPT Association cooperated with HURC1 Company and Railway College to hold kick-off classes to educate for 19 moderators and 09 administrators in preparation for the commercial operation of HCMC METRO Line No.01, which is scheduled to begin in early 2024.

General information of the Metro Line No.1:

  • Alignment: Ben Thanh (Quach Thi Trang Square) – Le Loi – Nguyen Sieu – Ngo Van Nam – Ton Duc Thang – Ba Son – Nguyen Huu Canh – Van Thanh – Dien Bien Phu – Sai Gon Bridge – Hanoi Highway - Long Binh Depot.
  • Total length: 19.7 km (2.6 km underground and 17.1 km elevated).
  • Number of stations: 14 stations (3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations).
